Resilience Rewarded: Andhra Pradesh Girl, Once Saved from Forced Marriage, Tops Intermediate Exam

G Nirmala, a student from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, has set a remarkable example of resilience and determination by securing the top spot in the 1st Year Intermediate exam of the state. Her achievement is all the more remarkable considering her past ordeal of being rescued from forced child marriage.

Attending Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Kurnool, a residential girls’ school aimed at empowering disadvantaged sections, Nirmala scored an impressive 421 out of 440 in the exam.

The Union Ministry of Education lauded her achievement, highlighting her journey from adversity to success. Despite facing challenges like being rescued from a child marriage, Nirmala’s dedication and aspiration to become an IPS officer serve as inspirations.

YSRCP legislator Y Saiprasad Reddy shared Nirmala’s story, revealing her determination to pursue her educational goals. Last year, during Reddy’s outreach program, Nirmala sought assistance to pursue her dreams. Reddy, moved by her plight, alerted the district collector, leading to her rescue from the imminent child marriage.

Following her rescue, Nirmala was admitted to Kasturba Gandhi Balikala Vidyalaya at Aspari, where she continued her education with unwavering determination. Her journey from adversity to academic success exemplifies the power of resilience and determination in overcoming obstacles.
