Amethi, 8th May.
In a twist of political maneuvers, Robert Vadra, the husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has announced his support for the Congress candidate for the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress party recently revealed that KL Sharma, a senior leader from the state, will be contesting the seat, which has historically been a stronghold of the Gandhi family until it was lost in the 2019 elections to Smriti Irani.

Speculations were rife earlier that Vadra might be chosen to contest from Amethi, a seat previously held by Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi. Vadra had hinted at his willingness to contest if the people of Amethi wished for him to represent them.

However, with the announcement of Sharma as the candidate, Vadra appeared to step back, expressing contentment with the party’s decision.

He praised Sharma’s long-standing connection with Amethi and expressed confidence in his ability to bring progress to the region.

The Congress’ choice of Sharma has drawn criticism from the BJP, with Smriti Irani, the sitting MP from Amethi, interpreting it as an admission of defeat by the Congress in the constituency. Irani took a dig at Rahul Gandhi for choosing to contest from Raebareli instead of Amethi, suggesting that his absence indicated acceptance of defeat.

In response, Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination from Raebareli, while Irani continued her lashing, asserting that those not accepted by Amethi would never truly belong to Raebareli.

The developments in Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape underscore the intricate dynamics of electoral strategies and the continuing rivalry between the Congress and BJP in the state.
