New Delhi, 28th July. Sanjay Raut, the Shiv Sena  politician, criticized the Narendra Modi-led government on Sunday, calling it a “insult” to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that her microphone was muted during her speech at the NITI Aayog meeting hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Raut claimed the practice of muting the chief minister’s microphones violates democratic standards, according to news agency PTI.

After departing the NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi, the West Bengal chief minister and TMC supremo told reporters, “This is disgusting. I will not be attending any further meetings.

“I have announced my decision to boycott the NITI Aayog meeting.

Chandrababu Naidu was allowed 20 minutes to talk, followed by 10-12 minutes from the Chief Ministers of Assam, Goa, and Chhattisgarh. I was halted after only five minutes. Mamata told reporters, “This is unfair.”

The Shiv Sena UBT leader also criticized Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for the tax distribution and funds granted to Maharashtra in the Union Budget. He stated, “The money distributed by the Centre belongs to the people of India.” It is collected by various taxes. What did Maharashtra receive? “Our chief minister returned empty-handed.”

On Friday, Finance Minister Nirmal Sitharaman said that Mamata’s claims are false and asked her to speak “the truth behind this rather than again build a narrative based on falsehood”, reported ANI. FM Sitharaman added that everyone there heard her and the West Bengal CM was given the allotted time which was displayed on a screen which was present before every table.
Banerjee was the only opposition leader who attended the meeting, and she said that her microphone was turned off five minutes into her address, whereas other chief ministers from Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Assam, and Chhattisgarh were permitted to speak for longer periods. She also claimed that the union government does not support “cooperative federalism,” accusing the centre of depriving Bengal of MGNREGA funds for the previous three years.

According to ANI, Finance Minister Nirmal Sitharaman stated on Friday that Mamata’s assertions are incorrect and requested her to reveal “the truth behind this rather than again build a narrative based on falsehood”.  FM Sitharaman stated that everyone there heard her, and the West Bengal Chief Minister was given the stipulated time, which was displayed on a screen in front of each table.
