Jaipur, 8th April.
In the aftermath of a high-profile rally including Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge in Rajasthan, a shocking defection occurred as several prominent Congress leaders joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday.

Among those who switched allegiance were former MLA Gangajal Meel and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) vice president Sushil Sharma. The exodus to the BJP took place in the presence of key BJP figures including Onkar Singh Lakhawat, Narayan Panchariya, and Arun Chaturvedi.

Sushil Sharma cited disillusionment with factionalism within the Congress ranks, lamenting the lack of responsiveness to the concerns of dedicated party workers. He highlighted grievances over the Congress’s stance on issues such as the Ram temple in Ayodhya, claiming that adherence to Sanatan Dharma principles influenced his decision to join the BJP.

Former Congress MLA Meel leveled accusations against PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, alleging arbitrary conduct in ticket distribution for assembly elections. He further criticized state in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa for purportedly ignoring their grievances, attributing their departure to internal discord within the Congress.

The defections extended beyond party leaders, with individuals from various sectors, including retired officials, also pledging their support to the BJP at the party’s state headquarters in Jaipur.

The political landscape in Rajasthan is undergoing significant shifts ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which will be held in two phases on April 19 and 26. The state, divided into two phases, will witness intense electoral battles across its 25 parliamentary constituencies.

As the BJP gains momentum with notable defections from the Congress, the political dynamics in Rajasthan are poised for further evolution as the election dates draw near.
