Shashi Tharoor Declares Assets Worth Over ₹55 Crore, Eyes Fourth Consecutive Win from Thiruvananthapuram

 Shashi Tharoor, the incumbent Congress MP contesting from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat, has filed his nomination papers revealing assets totaling over ₹55 crore. Alongside, he disclosed a substantial income of over ₹4.32 crore during the fiscal year 2022-2023.

In his affidavit accompanying the nomination papers, Tharoor outlined a diverse portfolio of assets, including immovable assets valued at over ₹49 crore. These assets comprise deposits across 19 bank accounts and investments in bonds, debentures, and mutual funds.

Additionally, his movable assets include 534 grams of gold valued at ₹32 lakh and ₹36,000 in cash.

The declaration further specified immovable assets worth over ₹6.75 crore, encompassing inherited and self-acquired properties, including agricultural land in Palakkad and a residence in Thiruvananthapuram.

In terms of vehicles, Tharoor owns a Maruti Ciaz and a Maruti XL6, as indicated in the affidavit.

However, alongside his wealth disclosure, Tharoor’s legal entanglements were also highlighted. The affidavit revealed that he faces accusations in nine cases across the country, primarily pertaining to allegedly promoting enmity between different groups. Among these cases, one in Kerala involves charges of unlawful assembly and rioting.

Moreover, Tharoor is entangled in four court cases, including defamation suits in Kerala and Delhi, and an allegation of promoting enmity between different groups in Kolkata.

Tharoor’s asset disclosure marks a significant increase from previous years, with declared assets exceeding ₹55 crore compared to ₹23 crore in 2014 and ₹35 crore in 2019.
