Six Maoists, Including Two Women, Killed in Encounter with Security Forces in Chhattisgarh

Six Maoists, including two women cadres, were neutralized in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday, according to a police official.

The gun battle erupted in the forest area along the Talperu river near Chipurbhatti village under Basaguda police station area. Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P informed PTI that the exchange of fire occurred when a joint team of security forces was on an anti-Maoist operation.

The operation, comprising personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the elite CoBRA unit, was launched based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of Naxalites from the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) platoon no. 10 of the Maoists.

“After the cessation of gunfire, the bodies of six Naxalites, including two women, were discovered, along with a substantial cache of weapons and explosives,” stated the IG.

Initially, it was reported that only one woman Maoist was among the deceased. However, the official later clarified that two women were among those killed.

The identities of the deceased Maoists are yet to be confirmed. Additionally, several other Maoists are believed to have sustained injuries during the encounter. A search operation is currently underway in the area.

Bijapur district, situated in the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, is scheduled to hold elections in the first phase of the general elections on April 19.
