Amethi, 18th April.
Union Minister Smriti Irani, who is currently defending her seat in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, cautioned residents against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. She stated that he has changed his stance and may attempt to divide them based on religion and caste.

Speaking to reporters, Irani expressed her belief that Gandhi would visit Amethi after April 26, which is the day of the polls in Wayanad.

The Congress party has not yet announced its candidate for Amethi and Raebareli, which were previously strongholds of the Gandhi family until Rahul Gandhi lost Amethi to Smriti Irani in 2019. He retained his parliamentary seat due to his victory in Wayanad, Kerala.

Irani alleged that Gandhi has frequently referred to Wayanad as his family.

She warned, “People change, families change… He will come to divide us based on religion and caste… We need to be cautious.”
Irani also criticized Gandhi for his recent press conference, highlighting the irony of him offering respects to Lord Ram on Ram Navami after declining an invitation to the Ram temple consecration.

She remarked, “It’s ironic that he began his press conference by wishing people on Ram Navmi… His family had previously filed an affidavit stating that Lord Ram did not exist… It’s interesting how he had to start his press conference by acknowledging Ram Navmi.”
She continued, “It’s unfortunate that he declined the invitation for the consecration. What will happen to someone who rejects God? Someone who was absent after winning will show up after losing.”

Key leaders of the Congress party, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, had declined the invitation for the consecration ceremony, leading to other Congress leaders also staying away.

Irani, who recently purchased a home in Amethi, emphasized the progress made in the region over the past five years. She pointed out the lack of development in Amethi at a basic level, stating, “The Amethi he considered family – 4 lakh people did not have toilets. Today, there are toilets in 4 lakh households.”
