Supreme Court Embraces Tech Revolution: CJI DY Chandrachud’s Vision for a Modern Judiciary

New Delhi, 28th July. The Supreme Court has seen a technological revolution, and justices have taken huge efforts toward democratising access to the country’s highest court, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud told Times Now in an exclusive interview. “My goal has been to maintain attention on the essential duty of a Chief Justice, which is to dispense justice and determine cases.

The CJI has taken numerous attempts to make the SC more tech-friendly.There has been a technology revolution in the Supreme Court, whether it is in terms of digitizing court records or e-filing, which allows litigants to submit cases 24×7/365 days a year. Numerous new initiatives have been implemented for a tech-friendly electronic pass system and a more transparent listing,” he stated.

FUTURISTIC BUILDING IS COMING TO SC PREMISES

Furthermore, the CJI stated that “a futuristic building is being planned within the existing premises of the Supreme Court.”We are in the process of constructing a futuristic building within the existing premises which will take into our needs for next 75 if not 100 years’, he said.CJI Chandrachud made the remark when asked, “It seems Lordship had actually drawn a plan on how to utilise the 2 year stint as Chief Justice of India to do the maximum as far as bringing judiciary closer to public, make SC more accessible to litigants lawyers by harnessing IT and also unprecedented infrastructural development in SC. Can your Lordship list some of the big measures taken?

 

TAKEN SC TO HOMES AND LIVES OF CITIZENS

The CJI stated that in recent times, the highest court’s work has reached citizens’ homes and lives through live-streaming of court hearings. He stated that the program enables residents from all around the country to comprehend what happens within the four walls of the Supreme Court. “Key initiative by us has been to take the work of the Supreme Court to the homes and lives of citizens. We have done that by live streaming important cases particularly the constitution bench, promoting video conferencing. What this has done is that access to the Supreme Court has been democratised and we have decentralised access to justice by allowing citizens from all across the country to understand what goes on within the four walls of the Supreme Court”, he added.
