Survey revealed: 90% people bothered by unsolicited calls, companies breaking the law

Most of the calls made in this are about marketing. The “Do Not Disturb” regulation, which forbade pointless marketing calls, is being flagrantly broken by marketing firms. Nearly 90% of people still get marketing calls even though they are on the Do Not Disturb list. These requests are for various products, including financial services and real estate projects. This was discovered through a survey. The majority reported getting spam calls almost every day.

Marketing companies are not at all afraid of the DND rule, according to this Local Circles survey. The company conducted this survey with approximately 60,000 respondents from 378 districts. 7 questions were posed. 90% of respondents stated, in response to a question, that they get one or two spam calls every day. Roughly 3% of respondents reported getting 10 of these calls per day. Sales, promotions, and automated phone calls have been sent to people for the past twelve months or so. They are all listed as DND registered users.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been continuously making efforts to reduce such harassing calls for the last few years. Despite this, customers have not been able to get any relief. Local Circles founder Sachin Taparia said that these calls are coming from different numbers. Calls coming from any brand or company were 29% in February 2023. In February 2024, this figure increased to 36%.

Most calls coming from NBFCs and banks

This survey was conducted between November 15, 2023 and February 16, 2024. In this, 40% people said that most of the calls are coming from non-banking finance companies. After this comes the call number of private sector banks. About 48% people said that such calls are coming from numbers that appear to be linked to some person.

Apart from this, many calls also come from Financial Services. Quoting this report, True Caller has said that the most popular scam among spam calls is related to KYC and OTP. That means users are either asked for their details to get KYC done or they are asked to provide OTP. True caller has said on the basis of its data that in Bharat, most of such calls are made to ask for OTP from people. They are asked for OTP by giving false information about some other service and are defrauded.
