Sushil Modi Laid to Rest in Patna with State Honours

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi was cremated with full state honours in Patna on Tuesday evening, marking the end of an era in Bihar politics.

Amidst chants of ‘Sushil Modi Amar Rahein’, an emotionally charged atmosphere enveloped the Digha Ghat crematorium as surging crowds paid their final respects to the departed leader. Sushil Modi’s sons, Uttarkash Modi and Akshay Modi, performed the last rites, lighting the pyre amidst an outpouring of grief. BJP President JP Nadda, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, and several other dignitaries attended the funeral, honoring Sushil Modi’s legacy and contributions to Bihar.

The former deputy chief minister’s mortal remains were first kept at the BJP’s state office in Patna, where party members and supporters gathered to pay their respects. A solemn procession then carried his body to the crematorium, with mourners chanting slogans in tribute to Sushil Modi’s enduring legacy.

JP Nadda, along with Union ministers and Bihar ministers, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, offered floral tributes to the late leader, symbolizing the collective grief of the nation.

Sushil Modi, 72, who had been battling cancer, passed away on Monday evening in a New Delhi hospital, leaving behind a void in Bihar’s political landscape. His body was flown from New Delhi to Patna earlier in the day, with senior BJP leaders present at the airport to receive him. The body was then taken to his residence in Rajendra Nagar, where the public paid their final respects to the departed leader.

From his residence, the funeral procession made its way to the Bihar Assembly premises, where legislators paid homage to Sushil Modi’s contributions to the state. Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav also paid his respects, reminiscing about his enduring friendship with the late leader. The procession then reached the BJP state office, where a multitude of mourners joined in paying their final respects.

Sushil Modi’s tenure as deputy chief minister from 2005 to 2013 and again from 2017 to 2020 left an indelible mark on Bihar’s political landscape. His demise marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to the people of Bihar.
