Chennai, 20th June. In a devastating incident in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district, 29 people have lost their lives after consuming toxic liquor, with at least 68 others hospitalized. Reports indicate that many of the victims hailed from the Karunapuram area, their lives cut short by the lethal concoction they unknowingly consumed.

The toxic brew, laced with poisonous methanol, has sparked outrage and grief among affected families and the community at large. Distraught mothers recounted harrowing tales of their sons’ agonizing symptoms, underscoring the human toll of this tragedy.

Law enforcement swiftly acted, arresting a suspected bootlegger and detaining two others as investigations into the source of the deadly liquor intensify. Senior police officials confirmed that the liquor responsible was sourced from illicit channels, not from government-regulated outlets.

In response to the crisis, the state government has taken decisive measures, including the suspension of key officials such as the district police chief and the district collector. The probe has been handed over to the CB-CID for thorough investigation, underscoring the seriousness with which authorities are treating the incident.

Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of lives, vowing stringent action against those responsible. He directed immediate medical assistance to the affected and called for a crackdown on illicit liquor networks.

Political leaders have also weighed in, with opposition figures criticizing the government’s handling of the recurring issue of toxic liquor-related deaths in the state.

The tragedy has reignited debates over liquor regulation and enforcement, highlighting lapses that have led to similar incidents in the past.
