Tamil Nadu, 18th Feb. On Monday, the DMK government led by MK Stalin will unveil the state budget, sparking controversy a week after Governor RN Ravi’s abbreviated conclusion of his annual speech to the House.

On February 19, Finance Minister Thangam Thenarasu is expected to deliver the general budget for the fiscal year 2024–2025. The agriculture budget and other government-related initiatives will then be presented by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam on February 20.

Demands for supplemental estimates will be presented to the assembly on February 21 and then put to a vote. Additionally, in the morning and evening sessions, talks will begin on the general budget for the fiscal year 2024–2025 as well as the Agriculture budget for the same period.

The budget session began on February 12 with RN Ravi’s speech. Even though his remarks were “expunged,” he had made some remarks about the speech’s content. During his first speech of the year to the House, the Governor said that the state government has disregarded his repeated requests and advice to respect the national anthem by playing it at the start and end of the speech.

For the ruling DMK, which wants to win as many Lok Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu as possible in the next general elections, this budget will be crucial.

The Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget for 2023 placed a strong focus on the use of technology, including drones, IoT, and remote sensing, in addition to envisioning a role for businesses and other related departments to guarantee fair prices for farmers and increase job opportunities in the agricultural sector.
