J&K, 5th May.  On Saturday, in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), terrorists attacked a convoy of Indian Air Force (IAF) vehicles. The local Rashtriya Rifles unit has begun cordon and search operations in the region after security sources reported that one soldier had died and four others had been injured in the incident.

“An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by terrorists in the Poonch district of J&K. The local Rashtriya Rifles unit has started cordon and search operations in the area. The vehicles have been secured inside the air base in the General area near Shahsitar. Military personnel have suffered injuries,” the officials from the security forces told news agency ANI.

According to the officials, the strike happened in the evening as the IAF convoy was heading into the Surankote sector of the district, towards Sanai Top. Two wounded troops were sent to the hospital immediately because their condition is said to be critical.
In order to find and neutralize the terrorists, a large search and rescue operation has been initiated, and the forces have requested assistance from the army and police. Around the Sanai neighborhood of Jarran Wali Gali (JWG) Poonch in Surankot, security has been stepped up, and guards are closely inspecting each car.

This year’s second attack in Poonch against security personnel

In the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir, there have been two attacks on security forces, the first of which targeted an IAF convoy on Saturday. An Army convoy was heavily fired upon by alleged terrorists earlier in January of this year, which prompted the military to launch a search and rescue mission.

“Suspected terrorists opened fire on a convoy of Security Forces vehicles at about 1800 hours today from a jungle close to Krishna Ghati, Poonch area; no own personnel were injured. The White Night Corps of the Army tweeted on X that “joint search operations by the Indian Army and JKP (Jammu and Kashmir Police) are in progress.”
