Tripura CM Manik Saha Allocates Rs 100 Crore for Surrendered Militants

GG News Bureau
Agartala, 8th April.
Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Monday that the state government has approved a package of Rs 100 crore for the surrendered militants of the Nationalist Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), a banned group that usually operated from hideouts in the hilly regions of Bangladesh.

These funds, sanctioned by the central government under the Special Economic Development Package for Indigenous People of Tripura, will be used to support former NLFT members who have renounced violence and are looking to reintegrate into society. Saha made this announcement during a public event in the West Tripura district of Gabordi.

Where Will the Funds Go?

The allocated funds will be used for various programs such as skill development training, education, and employment opportunities for the surrendered militants. Saha emphasized the government’s focus on rehabilitation and reintegration rather than punishment as a way to resolve conflicts.

PM Modi’s Contribution to Northeast

Saha also praised PM Modi as a problem-solver, highlighting the numerous agreements signed since 2014 to promote peace in the Northeast. He mentioned the recent agreement with the Tipra Motha Party, a new addition to the ruling coalition.

How Did the Bru Scandal Benefit the State Government?

Saha pointed out that the resolution of the Bru scandal through a quadripartite deal demonstrates the government’s commitment to restoring order. The government spent Rs 600 crore to settle the issue and ensure that displaced Bru migrants became permanent citizens of Tripura, a stark contrast to the previous administration’s inaction.

BJP’s Support for Indigenous Communities

Saha highlighted the BJP-led government’s efforts to recognize and honor members of indigenous communities in Tripura. He mentioned the Padma awards received by seven notable Tripurans and the posthumous Padma Shri awarded to IPFT leader NC Debbarma. The government has also established hostels for tribal students and provided financial support for coaching and hostel facilities for Scheduled Tribe students.
