Under Construction Tunnel Collapse in Uttarkashi: 50-60 Workers Feared Trapped, Rescue Teams Mobilized

GG News Bureau

Uttarkashi, 12th Nov. An under-construction tunnel on the Yamunotri national highway in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, collapsed on Sunday.

Initial reports suggest that around 50-60 workers are trapped under the debris.

Rescue teams have been dispatched to the site and are currently engaged in a rescue operation.

As of now, no casualties have been reported, but the possibility cannot be ruled out.

Uttarakhand has experienced heavy rainfall this monsoon season, resulting in loss of life and damage to infrastructure, including buildings, roads, and highways.

In August of this year, a similar incident occurred when 114 workers were trapped in the ‘Edit-II’ tunnel of the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line project due to flooding from a nearby stream in the Shivpuri area.

Fortunately, the police team successfully drained the water and rescued all 114 workers using ropes.
