Union Minister Piyush Goyal Commends CITI’s Role in Textile Sector

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, as well as Commerce & Industry, lauded the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) for its significant contributions and guidance in the textile sector.
Speaking at the CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2024, Minister Goyal stressed the importance of the textile industry’s engagement with international markets to enhance competitiveness.

Highlighting the Bharat Tex 2024 event as a showcase of the sector’s potential to lead globally, Minister Goyal expressed confidence in the textile industry’s capacity to drive the nation’s GDP growth by leveraging collaborative efforts and understanding the value chain dynamics.

He commended CITI for its steadfast support and commitment to the sector’s growth, affirming its pivotal role in generating employment and opportunities for India’s youth.

Minister Goyal acknowledged CITI’s ability to cater not only to the nation’s needs but also to contribute to global demands. He thanked CITI officials for their valuable contributions and guidance to the government in advancing the textile industry.

During the event, Minister Goyal distributed the CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2024, recognizing excellence in various sustainability aspects such as social responsibility, green initiatives, innovative material management, and women entrepreneurs’ leadership in sustainability.

Each award category symbolized a commitment to fostering sustainability and responsible business practices within the textile sector.
The event commenced with a welcome address by CITI Chairman Rakesh Mehra, emphasizing the significance of sustainable initiatives in the textile industry.

Minister of State for Textiles and Railways, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, delivered the keynote address, underscoring the importance of sustainability in driving industry growth.

The event concluded with remarks from CITI Deputy Chairman Ashwin Chandran, expressing gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for their contributions to advancing sustainable practices in the textile industry.
