Lucknow, 12th Nov. Four individuals connected to the Aligarh module of ISIS have been arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police, according to a statement released on Saturday.

The ATS arrested Rakib Imam Ansari, a 29-year-old graduate of Aligarh Muslim University, on Friday. On Saturday, Naved Siddiqui, a 23-year-old student at Aligarh Muslim University, Mohd Noman, a 27-year-old graduate of the university, and 23-year-old Mohd Nazim, a graduate from Sambhal, were also arrested.

The ATS seized banned ISIS literature, mobile phones, and pen drives from the accused.

The individuals were allegedly associated with ISIS and were engaged in efforts to overthrow the elected government through violent means and establish Sharia law. They were distributing ISIS-related materials and recruiting like-minded individuals for the group.

The accused were using online platforms to mentally and physically prepare people for acts of terrorism and had plans to carry out a major attack in the state and the country.

The four individuals met each other through meetings of the Students of Aligarh Muslim University and were attempting to recruit new members for ISIS.

Earlier this month, the ATS received information about radicalized individuals involved in anti-national activities and forming a jihadi group under the influence of ISIS. Abdullah Arsalan, Maaz bin Tariq, and Waziudin were also arrested in connection with ISIS.

The information about the four individuals arrested on Friday and Saturday was obtained during the interrogation of the trio.

The arrested individuals will be presented in court and appropriate action will be taken against them.
