New Delhi, 1st August. A delegation of UPSC aspirants met with MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar at the agency headquarters on Wednesday, addressing safety concerns following the death of three students at a coaching centre in Delhi.

The meeting, held amidst ongoing protests, focuses on improving safety measures at coaching centres, which the students claim pose a significant risk to their lives.

The protests, sparked by the tragic incident on July 27, have entered their fourth day in Old Rajinder Nagar. Students formed a 15-member coordination committee to strategize the protest’s future actions and liaise with authorities.

A dharna in front of Rau’s Study Circle has been ongoing since Sunday, with some students initiating a hunger strike on Tuesday to press their demands.

Senior police officers have been engaging with the protesters to address their concerns. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan reported that the students’ committee had previously met with the Delhi LG and received updates on the investigation.

The Delhi Police are actively investigating, having questioned VP Gupta, father-in-law of the coaching centre’s owner, and are considering additional questioning of relevant individuals.

The tragic incident, which resulted in the deaths of Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Dalvin, occurred when rainwater inundated the basement of the coaching institute.

Five individuals, including four co-owners and the driver of an SUV that contributed to the flooding, have been arrested.
