Washington, 15th August. The United States is actively engaging with India and other regional stakeholders to address the escalating violence in Bangladesh, a State Department official confirmed. Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel emphasized the US’s commitment to ending the violence, ensuring accountability, and upholding the rule of law.

Patel, during a daily news briefing, refrained from divulging details of private diplomatic discussions but confirmed ongoing communication with Indian officials and other regional partners about the situation following the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina government.

“We have been in touch with our Indian partners as well as other countries in the region to discuss recent events in Bangladesh,” Patel said. He also welcomed a call for calm from Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, who has emphasized the restoration of security and protection for minority communities.

In a related development, the Hindu American Foundation urged the White House to address the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh, criticizing the administration for its perceived inaction. “The silence from President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Secretary Blinken on the atrocities against Bangladeshi Hindus is unacceptable,” the foundation stated on X.

Washington-based NGO HinduACTion also highlighted the severe targeting of Hindus in rural areas of Bangladesh. They called for increased efforts to reform the Madrassa curriculum and public discourse to eliminate anti-Hindu sentiments, cautioning that the loss of the Hindu minority could lead Bangladesh towards extremism.
