GG News Bureau
Dehradun, 21st Sept. Members of the Uttarakhand Congress’ women wing, led by Mahila Congress president Jyoti Gairola, staged a protest march to the chief minister’s residence on Saturday, voicing anger over the increasing crimes against women in the state. Carrying placards and raising slogans, protesters aimed to gherao the chief minister’s residence but were stopped by police at Hathi Barkala.

The protest was sparked by growing concerns over the safety of women under the BJP government, as Congress leaders highlighted recent incidents of molestation, rape, and murder across the state.

Protesters cited the murder of resort receptionist Ankita Bhandari two years ago, where justice has yet to be delivered. They called for a CBI probe into the case and demanded the disclosure of the “VIP” allegedly involved. Other incidents, such as the rape and murder of a nurse in Udham Singh Nagar, the gang rape of a girl near Dehradun ISBT, and molestation at a footwear shop in Paltan Bazaar, were mentioned to showcase the deteriorating safety conditions for women.

Senior party leaders, including Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara, vice president Suryakant Dhasmana, leader of opposition Yashpal Arya, former minister Harak Singh Rawat, and deputy leader of opposition Bhuvan Kapri, also joined the protests, calling for immediate action to ensure justice and women’s safety in the state.
