Uttarakhand’s Char Dham Yatra is suspended due to heavy rainfall

Uttrakhand, 8th July. Predictions of intense rains in nine districts of Uttarakhand on July 7 and 8 led the state government to postpone the Char Dham Yatra for several days last Saturday.

It was suggested to pilgrims to remain where they were and wait for better weather. Roadblocks, landslides, and flooding have all had a detrimental effect on tourism in the area.

Vinay Shankar Pandey, the commissioner for Garhwal district, declared on Saturday night that there would be a lot of rain in the Garhwal districts on July 7 and 8. On July 7, pilgrims were advised to stay behind and not continue on their journey. Whether or not the Yatra is resumed on Monday will depend on the weather.

Warnings of Heavy Rainforce Cause Char Dham Yatra to Be Suspended

Due to the Char Dham Yatra route traveling through the Garhwal areas, pilgrims’ offline registration was suspended on Sunday and Monday. “The Yatra Administration took this decision to ensure pilgrims’ safety,” the Char Dham Yatra administration’s Ashish Srivastava stated. He pleaded with pilgrims to hold off on setting off from Rishikesh on July 7 and to stay where they were till the weather cleared up.

A slight break in the rain on Monday morning permitted a few pilgrims to proceed cautiously, but registration desks were still closed. But soon after, there was further intense rain in the areas of Rudraprayag, Pauri, and Chamoli, which prompted the authorities to once more completely stop pilgrimage. “The Badrinath highway is closed at many places again,” Ashish stated.

Rainfall Hits Tourism

In Uttarakhand, the intense rains have resulted in landslides, flooding, and blocked roads. The state’s infrastructure, particularly its highways, bridges, and communication systems, has been negatively impacted by this. As a result, during what is often a busy time of year, the number of tourists visiting well-known locations like Mussoorie, Nainital, and Rishikesh has drastically decreased.

These unfavorable weather conditions are having an impact on local businesses, tour operators, and hoteliers. The president of the Mussoorie Hotel Association, Sanjay Agarwal, reported a 70% decrease in reservations. He said that in addition to landslides and rain, other elements like school reopenings also play a part in the monsoon season’s decline in revenue. The Uttarakhand Hotel Association’s Sandeep Sahni said that this season’s typical setbacks include cancellations and low occupancy rates.

Adventure-Related Events Ceasing

Adventure sports like paragliding, river rafting, trekking, and camping are highly popular in Uttarakhand. However, due to monsoon-induced river swells, authorities have decided to terminate paragliding in the Bhimtal area for the season and halt river rafting until September. Risky conditions and treacherous walking trails have also forced officials to put safety before adventure until the weather clears.

The unfavorable weather has severely affected Uttarakhand’s tourism-related enterprises in addition to interfering with pilgrimages. The state’s natural beauty draws a large number of tourists each year, however during the monsoon season, safety concerns frequently result in cancellations and a decline in tourism.
