Jammu, 18th Sept. Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a compelling appeal to the voters of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, urging them to participate in large numbers in the ongoing assembly elections. Shah emphasized the importance of electing a government dedicated to advancing education, creating job opportunities, empowering women, and eradicating separatism.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Shah urged voters to prioritize casting their ballots before having breakfast, using the phrase “Pehle matdan phir jalpan” (Vote first, then have breakfast). His call to action comes as Jammu and Kashmir begins its assembly elections for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

The first phase of the elections covers 24 constituencies across seven districts of the Union Territory. This marks the first assembly elections in the region since 2014. Over 23 lakh voters are expected to decide the fate of 219 candidates, including 90 Independents.

Shah highlighted that only a government with strong resolve can ensure a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir, safeguard citizens’ rights, and accelerate development. He called for a government that is committed to tackling separatism and nepotism, thus paving the way for a more prosperous and secure future for the region.

The remaining phases of the elections are scheduled for September 25 and October 1, with vote counting set for October 8.
