Gandhinagar, 24th August. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar in his powerful address at the 8th International Dharma Dhamma Conference held at Gujarat University, condemned the imposition of Emergency in 1975 as a sacrilege of Dharma. He said that such actions cannot be condoned, overlooked, or forgotten, stating, “The proclamation of the Emergency by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was a blatant and outrageous disregard of Dharma, aimed at clinging to power and self-serving interests.”

Dhankhar highlighted the need for observance of Constitution Day and Constitution Hatya Divas as essential tributes to Dharma. He pointed out that these observances serve as grim reminders of the transgressions of Dharma and call for a robust adherence to constitutional principles. “During the Emergency, all checks and balances, including those of the Supreme Court, collapsed, underscoring the necessity of upholding constitutional Dharma,” he added.

The Vice-President expressed deep concern over the current political environment, marked by disruptions and disturbances that compromise the constitutional mandate of public representatives. He criticized those in power for deviating from their sacred duty of integrity, transparency, and justice, and warned that such deviations could unleash the rage of Adharma.

Dhankhar stressed the importance of nurturing Dharma and educating younger generations about it to prevent the recurrence of past mistakes. He warned against informed individuals who knowingly mislead the public for personal gain, describing such actions as antithetical to Dharma and a serious challenge to society.

The Vice-President urged citizens to enlighten their representatives about their constitutional duties and prioritize the greater good of humanity. He emphasized that power and authority should be used within their defined limits to avoid severe consequences, and called for a unified effort to combat forces that undermine Dharma, tarnish institutions, and threaten nationalism.

The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Shri Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, and several international dignitaries from Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and other regions.
