VP Dhankhar Embarks on 3-Day Visit to Cambodia to Attend ASEAN-India, East Asia Summits

New Delhi, 11th Nov. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar left for Cambodia on Friday for a three-day visit to attend the ASEAN-India summit and the East Asia Summit.

As the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Cambodia is hosting these summits (ASEAN).

During his visit, the vice president will meet with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in a bilateral meeting. He will also meet with leaders from a number of other countries.

This is Dhankhar’s first overseas trip since taking office in August of this year.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is accompanying him.

The ASEAN-India summit is expected to review the status of the two sides’ strategic partnership and assess cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and connectivity.

Dhankhar will attend the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit in Phnom Penh on November 12, according to the government.

The 30th anniversary of ASEAN-India relations is being commemorated this year as the ASEAN-India Friendship Year.

The vice president will attend the 17th East Asia Summit on November 13th, which will include Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

It also has eight dialogue partners, including India, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Russia.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, leaders will discuss ways to strengthen the East Asia Summit mechanism as well as issues of regional and international interest and concern, such as maritime security, terrorism, and non-proliferation, at the East Asia Summit.
