West Bengal: ED Raids 10 Places in Kolkata in Fake Vaccine Scam

Kolkata, 1st Sep. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided 10 places in Kolkata in connection with the fake vaccine scam on Wednesday. This year the Enforcement Directorate had registered six different cases related to Covid. These included cases of hoarding of medicines and vaccines, black marketing or supply of counterfeit medicines.

The ED has so far summoned and questioned several people who have indulged in or helped in money laundering in this case.

In the case of a fake corona vaccination camp in Kolkata, West Bengal, fake IAS officer Debanjan Deb was caught by the police and when questioned, many surprising revelations were also made by him.

The accused told the police that the pneumonia vaccine was being administered in place of Covishield in the Corona Vaccination Camp. Debanjan Deb was said to be in contact with many TMC leaders, which is also being investigated.

According to the police, accused Debanjan Deb used to print the graphics of Covishield and apply it on the vaccine. It is also found that last year Debanjan started the sanitizer business. That sanitizer also turned out to be fake. Debanjan has camped four to five times and has given doses of fake vaccines to about two hundred people.

According to officials, a private company had filed a complaint with the Kasba police station claiming to have paid Deb around Rs 1.2 lakh for vaccination of 172 employees. The second complaint was filed by a contractor who claimed to have paid him Rs 90 lakh for a tender for the construction of a stadium. The third complaint was filed by a pharmaceutical company which claimed to have paid Rs 4 lakh to Deb for the tender.
