‘Why Refuse to Visit Manipur While Embarking on US Trip?’: Congress Slams Modi

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 19th Sept. The Congress party slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday for prioritizing his upcoming visit to the United States over addressing the situation in Manipur.

PM Modi is set to travel to the US from September 21 for the Quad summit and the “Summit of the Future” at the United Nations General Assembly.

In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned Modi’s decision, stating, “So the non-biological PM is going to embark on yet another high-profile global visit in between campaigning in J-K and Haryana. But why does he still adamantly refuse to go to Manipur?” He described Modi’s refusal as “inexplicable and really inexcusable” and urged the Prime Minister to visit the violence-hit state.

The Congress has consistently called for Modi to visit Manipur to help restore peace and normalcy. The violence, which erupted on May 3, 2023, following a tribal solidarity march, has resulted in over 220 deaths among the Kuki and Meitei communities, as well as security personnel.
