Will Discuss Power Amendment Bill with PM Modi: Stalin

New Delhi, 17th August. The Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, the Cauvery river water issue and the Mekedatu dam proposal of Karnataka, the anti-NEET Bill pending with the Centre, and the National Education Policy 2020 are among the issues he plans to discuss with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Wednesday.

Stalin paid a courtesy visit to President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and described the meeting as satisfactory.

This is the first time the Chief Minister has paid them a visit since they assumed office. “I conveyed my greetings to them,” he told reporters in Delhi. The Chief Minister said that despite being invited, he was unable to attend Murmu and Dhankar’s swearing-in ceremony due to circumstances.

He had cordial conversations with both the President and Vice President about Tamil Nadu’s political situation and ‘Aatchi sirappukkal’ (excellence in governance/good governance). Hence, Stalin stated that his meetings with the top two constitutional authorities were satisfactory.

He said he was meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day to thank him for launching the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad at the invitation of the Tamil Nadu government.

Though he intended to personally invite PM Modi to the event, he was unable to do so because he was ill with COVID-19 at the time. A delegation led by DMK leader and MP T R Baalu invited Modi.

Recalling his previous meetings with PM Modi in Delhi, Stalin stated that while several demands of Tamil Nadu flagged by him during such previous visits were progressing, the Centre had yet to take up a slew of other representations.

“I am going to remind such representations and return to Chennai tonight,” he said.

Among the issues he plans to discuss with the Prime Minister are Tamil Nadu’s anti-NEET Bill, the National Education Policy 2020, the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, the Cauvery river water issue, and Karnataka’s Mekedatu dam proposal.

Stalin stated in Chennai on Tuesday that his visit to Delhi was intended to secure necessary projects for the state.

As Chief Minister, he is responsible for securing necessary projects from the Centre for the benefit of Tamil Nadu and its people, he has said. Stalin said that there is a relationship between the Union and the state governments, not between the DMK and the BJP.
