WWF EIACP PC-RP Celebrates World Wildlife Day 2024 at Okhla Bird Sanctuary

 On World Wildlife Day 2024, the WWF EIACP PC-RP, operating under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, marked the occasion with fervor and enthusiasm at the Okhla Bird Sanctuary, a haven of rich biodiversity, with a special focus on Mission LiFE. World Wildlife Day, observed annually on 3rd March, is dedicated to celebrating the diverse flora and fauna of our planet.

Under the theme “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation,” this year’s World Wildlife Day served as a platform for intergenerational exchange and youth empowerment through various activities centered around digital wildlife conservation. Participants engaged in art, presentations, and discussions to explore the opportunities and challenges in utilizing digital innovations for sustainable wildlife conservation.

Advancements in technology have revolutionized various aspects of wildlife conservation, making research, communication, tracking, and DNA analysis more efficient and accurate. The ongoing global digital revolution is breaking down barriers to digital governance and fostering equal opportunities for all to harness the power of digital transformation.

The event at Okhla Bird Sanctuary saw active participation from youth, including school and college students, as well as members of the public. Shri Pramod Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Shri Amit Gupta, Range Forest Officer, Okhla Bird Sanctuary, Gautam Buddha Nagar, added to the enthusiasm of the attendees as the Guest of Honor. Both officials delivered insightful lectures on various wildlife-related topics, motivating and inspiring the participants.

Dr. G. Areendran, Coordinator of WWF EIACP PC-RP India, shared his expertise during the event, contributing valuable insights to the discussions. Activities such as eco trails, poster making, and on-the-spot hand and face painting, all centered around the theme of WWD2024, engaged the participants and highlighted the importance of wildlife conservation.

The event witnessed a total participation of approximately 150 individuals, reflecting a shared commitment to protecting and preserving our planet’s precious wildlife for future generations.
