Valsad, 22nd April: At least six people were killed and several others injured after a pickup van overturned in Valsad district on Wednesday, police said.

The accident occurred near Kaprada’s Virkshetra area when the vehicle, carrying around 28 passengers, lost control and overturned on a hilly stretch.

According to initial reports, the victims were returning from a wedding-related function when the incident took place. Emergency services, including police and 108 ambulances, reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Preliminary findings suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle after a suspected brake failure. The pickup van reportedly began rolling backwards while climbing a slope before overturning.

Inspector D. N. Vanja of Kaprada police station said that six people, including three children, two women and one man, died in the accident. He added that further investigation is underway.

The victims were residents of Girnara village and had travelled to Kolvera village for the function. The incident has left the family and local community in mourning.
