New Delhi, 12th May: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards 2026 to nursing personnel at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of International Nurses Day.

The President honoured nursing professionals from across the country for their outstanding contribution and dedicated service in the healthcare sector.

In her message during the ceremony, Murmu said the occasion was a tribute to healthcare workers who serve society with compassion and unwavering commitment.

“Nursing personnel exemplify the highest standards of service and play a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare, often in the most challenging circumstances,” the President said.

Murmu commended the awardees for their devotion to duty and their efforts in maintaining high standards of patient care across the country.

She said the contribution of nursing personnel remains vital for strengthening India’s healthcare system and ensuring quality medical services for citizens.

The National Florence Nightingale Awards were instituted in 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to recognise meritorious service rendered by nursing professionals to society.

The awards are presented annually to outstanding nursing personnel working in hospitals, community health services and educational institutions.

The ceremony coincided with International Nurses Day, observed every year on May 12 to honour the contribution of nurses and healthcare workers globally.

Officials said the awards recognise exceptional dedication, compassion and professional excellence shown by nursing staff in diverse and often difficult healthcare environments.

Senior officials from the Health Ministry and healthcare institutions were also present during the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
