MEA says countries backing terror infrastructure must think about their global reputation

New Delhi, 12th May: India on Tuesday strongly reacted to reports that China provided technical support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, saying countries supporting or protecting terror infrastructure should reflect on their “reputation and standing”.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said reports emerging from China only confirmed what was already known.
“We have seen reports that corroborate what was known earlier. Operation Sindoor was a precise, targeted and calibrated response to the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam,” Jaiswal said.
He said the operation was aimed at dismantling “state-sponsored terrorist infrastructure operating out of Pakistan and at its behest”.
“It is for nations that consider themselves responsible to reflect on whether supporting or protecting terrorist infrastructure affects their reputation and standing,” he added.
India launched Operation Sindoor after the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.
The response came after Chinese state media reportedly confirmed that Beijing provided on-site technical assistance to Pakistan during the four-day military conflict with India last year.
According to reports, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV aired an interview with Zhang Heng, an engineer linked to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China.
Zhang reportedly said his team worked to ensure Chinese military equipment supplied to Pakistan performed at “full combat potential”.
Pakistan’s Air Force operates Chinese-made J-10CE fighter jets manufactured by AVIC subsidiaries.
Indian defence officials have earlier stated that nearly 81 per cent of Pakistan’s military hardware is of Chinese origin.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, China sold arms worth USD 8.2 billion to Pakistan since 2015, making Islamabad its biggest arms client.
