New Delhi, 4th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Lok Sabha Secretary General and noted constitutional scholar Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap, describing his death as a significant loss to India’s parliamentary and constitutional landscape.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Kashyap’s lifelong contributions to democratic institutions, constitutional studies and parliamentary affairs.

“Pained by the passing of Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap, who previously served as Secretary General of the Lok Sabha. He was one of India’s foremost constitutional scholars whose contributions to parliamentary and constitutional discourse enriched our society,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister noted that Kashyap’s extensive writings and unwavering commitment to strengthening democratic institutions had left a lasting impact on the nation.

“His writings and commitment to strengthening democratic institutions were noteworthy,” Modi added.

Dr. Kashyap, who passed away at the age of 97 after a prolonged illness, was widely regarded as one of India’s leading authorities on constitutional law and parliamentary procedures. He served as Secretary General of the Lok Sabha from 1983 to 1990 and remained associated with Parliament for more than three decades.

A Padma Bhushan awardee and author of over 100 books, Kashyap played a pivotal role in shaping constitutional discourse in India. He also served on several important government panels, including the high-level committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’ chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind.

Extending his sympathies, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his condolences to Kashyap’s family and friends.

“Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti,” the Prime Minister said.

Leaders across the political spectrum, constitutional experts and parliamentarians have paid tribute to Dr. Kashyap, remembering him as a scholar whose work significantly enriched India’s democratic and constitutional traditions.
