New Delhi, 4th June: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s successor, C. P. Radhakrishnan, on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Lok Sabha Secretary-General and noted constitutional scholar Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap, describing his contributions to India’s constitutional and parliamentary traditions as invaluable.
In a condolence message, the Vice President paid tribute to Dr. Kashyap’s distinguished public service and intellectual legacy.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap Ji, former Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha,” Shri Radhakrishnan said.
The Vice President described Dr. Kashyap as an eminent constitutional expert and distinguished scholar who played a pivotal role in enhancing the understanding of India’s Constitution and parliamentary democracy through his extensive writings, scholarship and public service.
“An eminent constitutional expert and distinguished scholar, he made invaluable contributions to the understanding of India’s Constitution and parliamentary democracy through his scholarship, writings, and public service,” he said.
Shri Radhakrishnan noted that Dr. Kashyap’s intellect, clarity of thought and steadfast commitment to democratic institutions earned him admiration across generations.
“His intellect, clarity of thought, and unwavering commitment to democratic institutions earned him the respect and admiration of generations,” the Vice President stated.
Dr. Kashyap, who passed away at the age of 97 after a prolonged illness, served as Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha from 1983 to 1990 and remained one of India’s most respected authorities on constitutional affairs and parliamentary procedures.
A Padma Bhushan awardee and author of more than 100 books, he made lasting contributions to constitutional discourse and democratic governance in India. He also served on several important national committees, including the high-level panel on simultaneous elections chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
Extending his sympathies, the Vice President conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Dr. Kashyap’s family, friends, students and admirers.
