New Delhi, 15th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the understanding reached between the United States and Iran to end the prolonged conflict in West Asia, expressing hope that the agreement would help restore peace, stability and normal commercial activity in the region.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the conflict had caused serious economic disruption across the world and resulted in the loss of lives in several countries.
“I welcome the understanding reached between the United States and Iran on ending the conflict in West Asia, which has caused serious economic disruption across the world and led to loss of life in many countries,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister said India hopes the implementation of the understanding will contribute to restoring peace and stability in the region while ensuring freedom of navigation and commerce, a key concern for global trade and energy security.
His remarks came after the United States and Iran announced a breakthrough framework agreement aimed at ending months of conflict that had disrupted energy markets and affected shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The proposed arrangement includes a ceasefire framework, reopening of key maritime routes and further negotiations on unresolved issues, including broader security and nuclear-related matters.
Modi also expressed confidence that discussions on pending issues would progress towards a durable and sustainable final settlement.
“We look forward to deliberations on the remaining issues reaching a sustainable final agreement,” the Prime Minister said.
The understanding between Washington and Tehran has been welcomed by several international stakeholders, including the United Nations, which described it as an important step towards reducing tensions and promoting stability in the region.
India has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts in West Asia, a region that remains critical to the country’s energy security, trade interests and the welfare of millions of Indians living and working there.
