Haridwar, 24th June: The Central Marg Darshak Mandal of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a review of family laws, greater transparency in temple management, stronger cow protection measures, and intensified efforts for social harmony and de-addiction, following the conclusion of its two-day meeting in Haridwar.
Addressing a joint press conference at Nishkam Seva Trust in Bhupatwala on Friday, Dandi Swami Jitendranand Saraswati and VHP International President Alok Kumar outlined the key resolutions and discussions held during the meeting.
On family laws, the VHP said the institution of family and marriage is a significant contribution of Hindu thought and expressed concern over developments such as the decriminalisation of adultery, live-in relationships and legal recognition of same-sex couples living together. The organisation said it was time to review family laws to ensure they remain aligned with the family and marriage institutions.
The Mandal also urged parents, saints and social leaders to educate younger generations about Sanatan values and encourage them to lead lives rooted in their cultural traditions.
Commenting on allegations regarding donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, VHP leaders said the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had itself sought an SIT probe from the Uttar Pradesh government. They welcomed the ongoing investigation and said anyone found guilty should be punished, irrespective of position.
The VHP further demanded that the scope of the SIT investigation be expanded to include other trusts that collected funds or gold in the name of the Ram Temple. At the same time, it urged people not to draw conclusions before the investigation is completed.
On cow protection, the organisation reiterated its demand for a central law to safeguard all cattle and called on state governments to strengthen existing laws. The VHP said it would work with saints and social organisations to build nationwide consensus on giving greater recognition and protection to cows.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing efforts by Bajrang Dal to combat substance abuse. The VHP said the de-addiction campaign launched a year ago would be expanded further with the active participation of saints and religious leaders.
The Mandal appealed for year-long nationwide celebrations to mark the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas, describing him as a pioneer of social harmony whose teachings remain relevant across communities.
During discussions on the upcoming Census, saints participating in the meeting expressed concern over efforts to classify tribal communities under the proposed ORP category, alleging that such moves could distance them from their traditional cultural roots.
The VHP also welcomed the Centre’s decision to constitute a high-level committee to examine population imbalance, describing it as an important step towards addressing national security concerns and preventing separatist tendencies.
