New Delhi, 23rd July: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday paid floral tributes to renowned freedom fighter Thiru Subramania Siva at the Uprashtrapati Bhawan on the occasion of his death anniversary, recalling his immense contribution to India’s struggle for independence.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice President said Subramania Siva, who hailed from Vatlagundu in southern Tamil Nadu, travelled from village to village inspiring people to join the freedom movement with the stirring slogan “Vande Mataram.”
Radhakrishnan noted that Siva, along with legendary freedom fighter Thiru V.O. Chidambaram Pillai, was imprisoned by the British colonial government for his unwavering commitment to India’s freedom.
The Vice President said that despite contracting leprosy during his imprisonment, Subramania Siva remained steadfast in his resolve and continued serving the cause of India’s independence until his last breath.
Describing him as a deeply patriotic son of India, Radhakrishnan said Subramania Siva worshipped Bharat Mata as his God and devoted his entire life to the service of the nation.
“On his death anniversary, the nation pays its deepest respects and heartfelt tributes to this great patriot,” the Vice President said.
