New Delhi, 30th July: Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Gyanendra Pratap Singh has assured personnel that he will take responsibility and accountability for decisions taken by them in the bona fide discharge of their duties, urging the force to perform its responsibilities without fear.
Addressing the CRPF’s investiture ceremony, Singh said personnel serving in both operational battalions and law-and-order units should continue to carry out their duties fearlessly.
“As the Director General of the CRPF, I want to assure each one of you that whether it is an operational battalion or a law-and-order unit, whatever decisions you take and whatever actions you carry out in the bona fide discharge of your duties, I take responsibility for all those decisions and actions,” he said.
He further told the personnel that wherever responsibility or accountability was required, he would assume it in his capacity as the Director General.
The remarks came days after Singh said the CRPF would undertake a “professional post-event assessment” of the action taken by the Rapid Action Force (RAF) during protests over the examination paper leak issue. The RAF, a specialised unit of the CRPF, is tasked with riot control, crowd management and handling civil unrest.
According to the force’s standard operating procedure, professional post-event assessments are conducted after major operations to review actions taken by personnel.
The CRPF is deployed across the country for internal security, counter-insurgency and law-and-order duties, often working alongside state police forces. It has also played a key role in anti-Maoist operations and counter-insurgency efforts in the Northeast, while its CoBRA commandos specialise in jungle warfare and operations against insurgent groups.
The force has frequently operated in challenging situations where operational decisions have had to be taken under difficult circumstances with limited margins for error.
