Kerala Rain Toll Rises to 15, Seven Missing
Over 11,000 people sheltered in 316 relief camps as IMD warns of more heavy rain and strong winds

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, 3rd Aug: The death toll from rain-related incidents across Kerala has climbed to 15, while seven people remain missing as heavy rainfall and flooding continue to affect several districts of the state, Chief Minister VD Satheesan said on Monday.
Addressing a press conference after reviewing the flood situation with senior officials, Satheesan said three deaths were reported from Kottayam district, including two from the Poonjar Assembly constituency. A child also died after reportedly falling into a water tank.
Ernakulam reported two deaths, while one death each was reported from Idukki and Muvattupuzha. Two people died in Kollam, four in Malappuram and one each in Kannur and Kozhikode.
According to the Chief Minister, seven people remain missing amid the rain and flooding. Two people each are missing in Kollam and Kannur, while one each is missing in Malappuram, Idukki and Muvattupuzha.
As of 9 am on Monday, 316 relief camps were operational across Kerala, accommodating 11,018 people displaced by flooding and heavy rainfall.
Authorities are continuing relief and response operations as weather conditions remain challenging in several areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall over Kerala on August 3 and August 6, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coast on August 2 and 3 due to rough sea conditions and the possibility of winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has also warned of high waves measuring between 2.7 and 3.5 metres along the northern Kerala coast.
Fishermen and residents in coastal areas have been advised to remain vigilant as authorities monitor the weather and flood situation.
