President Murmu Confers National Awards on Teachers
President stresses quality education, skill development and entrepreneurship for building a developed India

New Delhi, 5th Sept: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Awards on Teachers at a function held in New Delhi on Teachers’ Day, September 5, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu said education is the most effective means of realising the constitutional ideal of equality of opportunity. She credited the efforts of teachers for helping achieve a negligible primary school dropout rate and appreciated them for their contribution to the national achievement.
The President said school education forms the foundation of the education system and emphasised the importance of developing good conduct during childhood. She said teachers should focus on the intellectual, physical and moral development of children in the early grades to prepare them to become capable students and responsible citizens.
Murmu highlighted the diverse challenges faced by students, including those from economically disadvantaged families, first-generation learners, village schools, shy students, children with talent but low self-confidence and children with special needs. She said teachers have a special responsibility to build confidence among such students and ensure that they receive the support needed to overcome feelings of inadequacy.
The President said academic excellence, skill development and entrepreneurship are important for the country’s development. She noted that establishing India as the skill capital of the world and transforming the country into a knowledge superpower are among the national priorities.
She said the goal of building a Viksit Bharat can be achieved only through a world-class education system and described teachers as the force that brings the education system to life.
The President emphasised that every student should have access to quality education and called upon teachers to nurture knowledge, inspiration, morality and sensitivity among students through affection and dedication.
