New Delhi, 1st Oct: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of his 157th birth anniversary, saying his message of peace and non-violence has become even more relevant amid conflicts in several parts of the world.
In her Gandhi Jayanti message, Murmu said Gandhi’s life and ideals continue to command respect globally. Referring to the prevailing atmosphere of war and conflict in different parts of the world, she said his message of peace and non-violence carries greater relevance in the present circumstances.
The President said India is advancing towards the national goal of becoming Viksit Bharat by 2047, with emphasis on empathy and inclusion so that no citizen is deprived of the benefits of development.
She said this approach reflects Mahatma Gandhi’s ideal of ‘Sarvodaya’, centred on the welfare and upliftment of all.
Murmu also called upon citizens to reaffirm their commitment to building an empowered, developed and Atmanirbhar Bharat through ethical conduct and active participation.
