New Delhi, 4th Oct: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday addressed the 58th Foundation Day celebrations of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, stressing the critical role of company secretaries in strengthening corporate governance and investor confidence.
Radhakrishnan described Company Secretaries as “Guardians of Governance” and said that while artificial intelligence, advanced data analytics and emerging business models are transforming the corporate landscape, the core principles of integrity, accountability, transparency and responsibility remain fundamentally human.
He said ICSI’s nearly six-decade journey reflects the evolution of the profession and its growing contribution to corporate transparency, investor confidence and India’s position in the global economy.
The Vice-President termed trust, transparency and corporate governance the “invisible infrastructure” of a modern economy, noting that investor confidence is essential for sustained economic growth. He said Company Secretaries are central to this framework and help enterprises, start-ups, family businesses and listed companies grow responsibly.
Governance vital for Viksit Bharat
Radhakrishnan said strong institutions and sound governance would be as important as physical and digital infrastructure in India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat @2047.
He highlighted the complementary roles of ICSI, ICAI and ICMAI in building a robust corporate and economic ecosystem and called for greater opportunities for young people to enter the profession.
The Vice-President appreciated ICSI’s fee-waiver initiatives and urged the institute to continue expanding outreach among students. He also launched the MSME Compliance Calendar 2027 and praised initiatives such as the ICSI MSME & Start-up Catalyst.
He further appreciated ICSI’s contributions to the National Defence Fund under the Shaheed Ki Beti initiative and the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund of the Ministry of Defence.
India should aim to become world’s largest economy
Calling upon ICSI to uphold the trust placed in the profession, Radhakrishnan said India should aspire to become the world’s largest economy not to dictate terms to other nations, but to ensure that “no one can dictate unwanted terms to us.”
He invoked the timeless principle of “Satyam Vada, Dharmam Chara” and urged the professional community to contribute to building a strong, self-reliant and developed India by 2047.
ICSI President C.S. Pawan Chandak, former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sonal Mansingh and ICSI Secretary C.S. Asish Mohan were among those present at the event.
