New Delhi, 14th Oct: Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar (Retd.), Chairman of the High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes (HLCDC), has launched the committee’s official web portal to strengthen public engagement and scientific data collection.

The portal, available at demography.mha.gov.in, is open for public access and submissions. It will collect information on demographic changes, their possible causes and unusual settlement patterns.

The portal enables Central ministries, state and Union Territory governments, NGOs, institutions and individuals to submit relevant information. The committee will use these inputs to study factors such as fertility variations, cross-border movement, economic opportunities and socio-environmental changes.

Constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 26, 2026, the committee has been tasked with examining demographic changes, including those linked to illegal immigration, and identifying their underlying causes.

Its mandate includes recommending a permanent system for the lawful, fair and time-bound identification, detention and deportation of illegal immigrants, along with measures to strengthen border management and identification systems.

The committee will also examine coordination between the Centre and states and develop policy recommendations to address challenges arising from demographic changes.
