New Delhi, 14th Oct: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand during her visit to India on Wednesday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and advancing priorities under the India-Canada joint roadmap.
The ministers reviewed progress made since the launch of the joint roadmap a year ago and discussed ways to deepen cooperation in trade, energy, people-to-people ties, security and defence. Anand described India as a valuable partner for Canada amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.
They welcomed the recent bilateral security dialogue held at the National Security Adviser level, where officials discussed law enforcement cooperation and agreed to maintain engagement on shared security concerns.
Both sides also welcomed efforts to advance negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The Team Canada Trade Mission, led by International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu, was highlighted as an example of expanding economic engagement.
The discussions also covered the conflict in the Middle East and Russia’s war in Ukraine. The ministers welcomed upcoming high-level engagements and agreed to remain in close contact to sustain progress in bilateral relations.
