Shillong, 25th Oct: The Assam Rifles has announced that the sixth edition of the Assam Rifles Half Marathon will be held in Shillong on November 22, 2026, with organisers expecting participation from more than 4,000 runners across the country.

The event will feature three race categories — 5 km, 10 km and 21 km — for participants aged 12 to 60 years and above. Runners will compete along the scenic routes of Upper Shillong, with a total prize pool of ₹25 lakh making the event a major sporting attraction in the Northeast.

The announcement was made during a curtain-raiser event at the Assam Rifles Liaison Office in Delhi Cantonment. Organisers also unveiled the official race jersey and finisher medal for this year’s edition.

Since its launch in 2021, the marathon has grown from a fitness initiative into an event promoting health, unity and community participation. Its increasing popularity has attracted runners from the Northeast and other parts of the country.

Col Apurva Bhatnagar, VSM, from Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles, said the enhanced prize money reflected the force’s vision of establishing the marathon as a premier sporting event in the region.

The event aims to encourage fitness, wellness and camaraderie among members of the armed forces and the general public. It also seeks to promote the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a fitter and healthier India.

With growing participation and an expanded prize pool, the 2026 edition is expected to strengthen Shillong’s position as a prominent destination for running enthusiasts.
