New Delhi, 27th Oct: Lawyers at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court staged a protest and observed a strike against the Delhi Police over allegations that a police officer intimidated and threatened members of the legal fraternity following a dispute involving lawyers.

Vijay Bishnoi, secretary of the Rouse Avenue Court Bar Association, said an emergency meeting was called after an FIR was registered against some lawyers at Shahdara police station. The association subsequently looked into the circumstances surrounding the case.

Bar Association Raises Questions Over Police Action
According to Bishnoi, the incident originated on October 23, when a fight broke out between some lawyers, leaving one of them with a head injury. He said the lawyers subsequently filed an FIR against the accused.

Bishnoi alleged that the concerned Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Station House Officer (SHO) had assured the lawyers that the accused would be arrested. However, when a lawyer visited the police station on October 24 to obtain a copy of the FIR, he allegedly learned that the accused had been released.

Bishnoi further alleged that when the lawyer raised the issue with the SHO and ACP later that evening, the ACP loaded his revolver, displayed it and threatened the lawyers. These allegations have been raised by the Bar Association amid its protest against the police.

Appeal to Police Commissioner and Amit Shah
Bishnoi urged the Delhi Police Commissioner and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure that an officer facing such allegations is not assigned a sensitive posting in the future.

The lawyers’ protest centres on the alleged intimidation and the handling of the FIR. The allegations against the police officer remain claims made by the Bar Association.
