Barhet Voter Row: Why Is Rahul Gandhi Silent? Asks Nishikant Dubey

BJP MP cites alleged identity and genealogy mismatches in Jharkhand’s Barhet constituency; official letter seeks verification of records.

Ranchi, 1st Nov: Barhet voter roll irregularities have come under scrutiny after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey shared documents alleging discrepancies in the identity and family records of a woman registered as a voter in Barhet, Jharkhand. The documents include an official communication dated October 30, 2026, from Chief Electoral Officer-cum-Secretary K. Ravi Kumar to the Sahibganj District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, seeking an inquiry and a report on the complaint.

The official letter refers to a complaint concerning a voter identified as Fatima Bibi, whose previous name was reportedly recorded as Mita Devi. It flags an apparent discrepancy involving the names, family details and Aadhaar number mentioned in the submitted records.

According to the letter, a genealogy certificate issued by the Circle Officer, Barhet, on September 23, 2026, reportedly listed Fatima Bibi as the daughter of Mohammad Nazamuddin Momin. The complaint, however, cited another record in which Mita Devi was identified as the wife of Pritam Kumar Chandra. The communication notes that the same Aadhaar number appeared in both sets of records and refers to a biometric entry.

The Chief Electoral Officer asked the district authorities to examine the complaint, verify the documents and take appropriate follow-up action before submitting a report. The communication does not declare the allegations proven.

Dubey Raises Wider Questions Over SIR
Sharing the documents on X, Dubey alleged that the case exposed an attempt to manipulate voter identities and electoral records in Barhet, the Assembly constituency represented by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

He also alleged that foreign networks were involved in efforts to influence India’s electoral processes and linked the issue to concerns over alleged illegal immigration from Bangladesh. These claims were made by the BJP MP and have not been established by the official letter.

Dubey tagged Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Rahul Gandhi in his post, questioning their position on the alleged irregularities. He also referred to the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
