Patna, 2nd Nov: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has appealed to financially well-off and income-tax-paying households to voluntarily give up the benefit of 125 units of free electricity and contribute towards the state’s development.

Addressing the two-day Pataliputra National Youth Parliament-2.0 on Sunday, Choudhary said the state government spends around Rs 23,000 crore annually on electricity subsidies. The expenditure amounts to approximately Rs 8,000-10,000 per household, he said.

The government currently provides 125 units of free electricity to consumers across economic categories. Choudhary urged those who can afford to pay their electricity bills to voluntarily surrender the benefit.

Youth Have a Key Role in Democracy
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of young people in strengthening democracy, preserving India’s cultural heritage and building a developed nation.

Recalling Bihar’s historical association with democratic values, he said the younger generation must take the lead in protecting and strengthening democratic institutions.

Choudhary noted that India’s Independence in 1947 was secured through the sacrifices and struggles of freedom fighters. As the country approaches 80 years of Independence in 2027, he called for renewed commitment to democratic principles.

He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047 and acknowledged former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s contribution to the state’s development.

Calls for Greater Youth Participation
Referring to the 1974 movement, Choudhary recalled the role played by young people in shaping that period of political change. He said today’s generations, including Gen Z and Gen Alpha, must also contribute actively to strengthening the democratic system.

He described quality education and knowledge as the foundations of success and prosperity. The Chief Minister also called for organising the youth parliament every year to connect young people with democratic processes, constitutional values and nation-building.

Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, MP Shambhavi Choudhary and youth parliament founder Sayan Kunal were among those present at the event.
