Vijayawada, 2nd Nov: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has cancelled his scheduled Delhi visit on Monday as Cyclone Murasu approaches the state, directing officials to step up preparedness and ensure timely relief and restoration measures.

During a review meeting on Sunday, officials briefed the Chief Minister that the cyclonic system was expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur, near Ongole, during the night of November 2 and early hours of November 3. The India Meteorological Department forecast wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, with gusts reaching 120 kmph.

Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds Expected
Officials warned of moderate to heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy spells in South Coastal and Central Coastal districts on November 2. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely in several areas on November 3 and 4.

Twenty mandals have been identified as likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall. These include nine in Eluru district, five each in Krishna and NTR districts, and one in Bapatla district.

The Chief Minister directed officials to arrange adequate manpower and equipment in advance, particularly to deal with possible damage to electricity poles across 12 districts due to strong winds.

Four-Hourly Updates, Telecom Precautions Ordered
Naidu instructed officials to issue bulletins on the cyclone situation every four hours. He also asked telecom operators to take advance precautions to minimise disruptions to mobile connectivity during the storm.

The administration has been directed to remain prepared for emergency response, including electricity restoration and other essential services.

Cyclone Arnab Restoration Work Reviewed
During the meeting, officials also briefed the Chief Minister on damage caused by the earlier Cyclone Arnab and the progress of relief and restoration operations.

Naidu sought an update on electricity restoration in affected areas. Officials informed him that power supply was expected to be restored across all affected locations by Sunday night.

The state administration is now preparing to manage the approaching cyclone while continuing restoration work from the previous storm.
