Dhar, 3rd Nov: The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has seized 595.420 kg of poppy straw powder from a truck intercepted near Badnawar in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district. Two persons travelling in the vehicle have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team of the CBN’s Madhya Pradesh Unit intercepted a Punjab-registered Tata truck along the suspected route. Officers had maintained surveillance before stopping the vehicle and searching it.
During the search, officials recovered 60 plastic bags containing the illicit substance from a specially constructed concealed cavity in the truck’s floor. The concealment was allegedly designed to evade detection during transportation.
The recovered poppy straw powder and the truck were seized, while both occupants were arrested under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
Investigation underway
The CBN has launched further investigation to identify the source of the seized contraband and trace the network allegedly involved in its transportation and distribution.
The agency said it would continue intelligence-based enforcement operations to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the illegal movement of narcotic substances.
