Bhopal, 23rd July: The Madhya Pradesh Government has appointed senior IAS officer Ashok Barnwal (1991 batch) as the Acting Chief Secretary of the state until further orders.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department on July 22, 2026, Barnwal, who is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary, Public Health and Medical Education Department, has been given the additional responsibility of Chief Secretary, Madhya Pradesh, in a temporary capacity.

He will continue to hold his existing responsibilities, including the additional charge of Additional Chief Secretary, Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Department, and Commissioner, Food Safety, Madhya Pradesh, while discharging the duties of the Chief Secretary.

The appointment has been made in the name of the Governor of Madhya Pradesh and will remain effective until further orders, the official notification stated.
